With limited time to prep, I remembered a video-editing technique I'd picked up scrolling Instagram (yes, mostly for cat videos) and used it to put together a quick presentation video for resumeBuddy instead of a plain slide deck.
Not the most polished thing I've made
It's not the most polished thing I've ever put together. But it added real production value to the pitch in a fraction of the time it would've taken otherwise — and it held up in front of a real audience.
Not a replacement for a real editor
This isn't a replacement for the video editors and designers I know and respect. It's not trying to be. But in a pinch, under a deadline, it was a genuine lifesaver.
What the extension actually does
The video above is about the scramble to get a pitch ready in time — it doesn't really show resumeBuddy running. So I put together a second one just for this post (this one wasn't part of the interview at all): highlight a job posting, right-click, "Tailor with resumeBuddy," and the sidebar captures it instantly — no copy, no paste. From there it scores the match against your resume and generates tailored bullets, a full rewritten resume, and a cover letter, all in the same panel.
Both videos were put together with Brag, an open-source tool for turning a project into a quick video.
Looking for a motion designer
Eventually I'd like a properly designed presentation for resumeBuddy, done right by someone who actually does this for a living. If you know a video or motion designer whose work you rate, I'd love an intro — reach out. Happy to pay for the work, not looking for a handout.
