What is resumeBuddy?
resumeBuddy tailors your resume, cover letter, and outreach message to a specific job posting, using your own master resume as the source of truth. It comes as a Chrome/Firefox browser extension, a web app (PWA) for Safari and mobile, and a Claude skill.
Which version should I use: the extension, the web app, or the Claude skill?
On a desktop Chrome or Firefox browser, use the extension: it's the only version with right-click capture of a job posting. On Safari or a phone, use the web app. If you already work in Claude and would rather not set up an AI key, use the Claude skill, which runs inside your own Claude session.
Does resumeBuddy work in Safari?
Yes, through the web app at resumebuddy.boringbydesign.com. There is no Safari extension, because publishing one requires Apple's paid developer program. The web app uses the same bring-your-own-key setup as the extension and can be added to your home screen.
How much does resumeBuddy cost?
The extension and the web app are free; you pay your chosen AI provider (Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, or Claude) directly for the requests you make, often a fraction of a cent to a few cents per tailored resume, and some providers have free tiers. The Claude skill uses your own Claude plan instead of an API key. There is no resumeBuddy subscription.
Will resumeBuddy invent experience I don't have?
No. The rule above all others in its instructions is that nothing is added that isn't already in your own resume. It won't add a keyword your resume doesn't support, even to the skills list, and it won't copy sentences from the posting.
Will it get my resume past applicant tracking systems?
It's built for that first screen: a plain single-column layout, standard section names, the posting's exact spelling for skills you already have, and a heads-up on knockout questions. No tool can guarantee an outcome, but a resume a parser can read and a recruiter can search for is a better starting point.
Where does my resume go?
In the extension and the web app, your resume and API keys stay in your browser's local storage, and requests go straight from your browser to the AI provider you configured. I don't run a backend for either. In the Claude skill, everything happens inside your own Claude conversation, and Anthropic's privacy policy and your plan's settings apply. See the privacy policy for details.
